bookie

hi. my name is lauren, and i'm a bookie.

for real people. i think i might actually be addicted to books.

i love books.

new books and old books.
funny books and sad books.
books about adventure and books about growth.
metaphorical books and books that are just a story.
books full of characters i grow to love and ones with character i truly and fully dislike.

as i sit here writing this, two new books sit in front of me, watching me, begging me to start reading. they smell fresh, new and none of the pages are bent. they are beautiful, clean and untouched.

as i sit here writing this, the book i'm currently reading sits beside me, open to my favourite page. this book is old, worn and messy. i bought it second hand. i write in it and mark the best passages. i dog ear the pages regularly. this book is beautiful, a little bit of a mess, but beautiful.

my only problem with books is that i always have too many i need to read. i am currently reading three books;

1984 by George Orwell
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
and
Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

just looking at that list, it makes me laugh a little bit. none of those books are anything like the other, but i love them all.

so yes, i am a bookie.

and now i want to know, what good books have you read lately?
any that i should add to my ever growing list of must-reads?
do tell, friends.

hey!
i actually read "eat, pray, love" 'cause katie had it sitting around the house.. i thought it was really good. she's a witty writer!

right now i'm reading "walden" by Henry David Thoreau, and i think it's awesome.
i'm not too far into it though, so i'm hesitant to recommend it.

sounds like you've got enough books going that you're currently NOT IN NEED of recommendations so i wont worry about it!

Ooooh, Monte Cristo! I felt a bit intimidated starting it, but once I started I couldn't stop. Fantastic.

I have no ideas for you, but I'm stealing your ideas for myself! Muah ha ha.

The Book Thief.
I wasn't the same after i read that book. As lame as it sounds. It is so beautiful and captivating. I've read it about a billion times and it just gets better and better.

1984 is one of my favorites! My copy is SO WORN OUT! I almost need a new one. But I hate to give this one up.
Also love The Great Gatsby. A classic. I lost my original copy of this in one of our moves, and it has upset me.
I don't know... I LOVE books too Lauren. You are making me think too much. Hmmm... "The Glass Lake" by Maeve Binchy is interesting. I really enjoyed that one. Totally not the whole "intellectual, introspective" book I usually go for, but awesome none-the-less
